To celebrate 25 years of collaboration between Mapex and one of metal’s most influential drummers, the Black Panther Artist Collection proudly introduces the Aquiles Priester “PsychOctopus” Signature Snare Drum. Developed under Mapex Design Lab’s Concept Hybrid philosophy, this instrument reflects Aquiles Priester’s technical mastery, power, and unmistakable musical identity.

Maple / Padauk hybrid shell – power with clarity

At the heart of the Psychoctopus is an 11mm thick, 11-ply Maple/Padauk hybrid shell. This combination delivers a bright, open tone with warmth, clarity, and strong projection. The extended 8" depth provides increased volume and enhanced low-end authority, making every stroke feel powerful and commanding—ideal for high-energy, heavy-hitting performance.

Psychoctopus 3D badge – a symbol brought to life

The PsychOctopus has long been Aquiles Priester’s personal symbol, representing the complexity, precision, and intensity of his drumming. For this signature release, the emblem has been reimagined as a striking 3D badge, adding depth and visual impact that truly captures his artistic personality.

SONIClear bearing edges – wider tuning range, deeper tone

Mapex’s SONIClear Bearing Edge design allows the drumhead to sit flatter against the shell, improving contact and shell vibration. The result is a stronger fundamental pitch, effortless tuning, and a significantly expanded tuning range—allowing the full tonal character of the hybrid shell to shine through.

Design Lab Air Flow Venting – optimized resonance

Resonance and feel are further enhanced through Design Lab Air Flow Venting. After extensive testing, the shell is fitted with an optimal number of air vents, improving airflow, response, and overall sonic balance for a lively yet controlled snare sound.
