Takamine – A friend for life
Takamine as a company was founded as early as 1959, but it was not until 1962 that the name Takamine was adopted. The name is taken from a mountain in Japan called Takamine, and it was at the foot of this mountain in the town of Sakashita that the company was established. In 1968, the company had 60 employees led by a Master Luthier named Mass Hirade. Hirade developed and introduced a large number of design improvements and manufacturing methods and left a strong mark on Takamine. His name appears on several models in today’s range to honor his contributions. In 1975, Hirade became CEO of Takamine, and it was only then that Takamine truly began to be exported worldwide. In 1978, after three years of development, their first electro-acoustic guitar, the PT-007S, was introduced, and it was an instant success. Since then, Takamine has been synonymous with electro-acoustic guitars and is today one of the leading brands on the market. Glenn Frey, Jon Bon Jovi, Glen Hansard, Toby Keith, Bruce Springsteen, Bruno Mars, John Scofield… the list goes on..
