Takamine – A friend for life
Takamine was founded in 1959, but the name Takamine was adopted in 1962. The name is taken from Mount Takamine in Japan, and the company was established at the base of this mountain in the city of Sakashita. In 1968, the company employed 60 people under the leadership of master luthier Mass Hirade. Hirade developed and introduced numerous design improvements and manufacturing techniques that significantly shaped Takamine’s identity. His name remains on several models today in honor of his contribution. In 1975, Hirade became CEO, marking the beginning of Takamine’s global export expansion. In 1978, after three years of development, Takamine launched its first acoustic-electric guitar, the PT‑007S, achieving immediate success. Since then, Takamine has been synonymous with acoustic-electric guitars and is today regarded as one of the market leaders. Glenn Frey, Jon Bon Jovi, Glen Hansard, Toby Keith, Bruce Springsteen, Bruno Mars, John Scofield… the list goes on.
